In a week that saw only one top ten matchup, there were four losing teams in the top 10. However everyone that was just outside of the top ten were on a bye, lost or tied, so the top ten teams remain intact this week, just shuffled around.
The AFC West currently has three teams in the Top 10 rankings and will see two of them do battle this weekend as #3 Denver travels to #5 Oakland in a matchup of two 6-2 teams. Hot on their heels though are the Kansas City Chiefs at 5-2 with a nice matchup this week against Jacksonville. The top two remain the same this week as both New England and Dallas pulled out victories over division opponents.
Check out the previous weeks Power Rankings here.
1. New England Patriots (7-1) (ESPN #1) – Remain at #1
If you think for a second Coach Belichik and the Patriots forgot about getting shutout by Buffalo in Week 4, think again. They came to play this week and never let off the gas pedal beating Buffalo 41-25.
2. Dallas Cowboys (6-1) (ESPN #2) – Remain at #2
They didn’t play their best football of the season and still found a way to win. Just when it looked like they were going to drop a game to a division opponent, they found their offense in the 4th quarter and overtime and were able to pull out the victory. It’ll be interesting to see if Dez is a positive or negative going forward…
3. Denver Broncos (6-2) (ESPN #3) – Up 1
Winning games with their defense still but this team will need to be able to score points on offense and it’s not looking any better with the recent loss of CJ Anderson. They get a nice matchup with one of the worst defenses in the league this week when visiting division rival Oakland.
4. Atlanta Falcons (5-3) (ESPN #9) – Up 2
The offense hasn’t been the problem so far but they’ll need a healthy Julio and Tevin Coleman if they want to keep winning. A nice matchup this week going against a suspect Tampa Bay defense.
5. Oakland Raiders (6-2) (ESPN #6) – Up 2
Derek Carr might be an MVP candidate but the passing game is rolling right now. Whether he’s finding Cooper or Crabtree tree or anyone else at this point, Carr hasn’t really been stopped yet. However this defense is terrible and the team committed an NFL record 23 penalties Sunday (and that’s just the ones that were accepted), which will need to change if this team wants to make the next leap up.
6. Seattle Seahawks (4-2-1) (ESPN #4) – Down 3
The offense just isn’t good right now. Maybe Wilson is more hurt than he’s letting on, but this offense only put up 13 points against a weak Saints defense.
7. Kansas City Chiefs (5-2) (ESPN #11) – Up 3
This is one team I just can’t figure out. I really still don’t know if they are good or bad. The passing game looked okay with Foles in at QB, but the loss of Ware may hurt this team more than realized.
8. Green Bay Packers (4-3) (ESPN #5) – Up 1
Aaron Rodgers is looking better than he has but still not the same Rodgers of the past. He usually gets a pass and it looks like the decline of Minnesota may bail him out with having another average season and making the playoffs.
9. Minnesota Vikings (5-2) (ESPN #7) – Down 4
A few weeks ago, some people would have said Minnesota was the best team in the NFL. Fast forward a few week and they look like a county college team playing out there. The offense is nonexistent and the defense can’t perform at 100% if they are on the field the whole game. That was an ugly loss to Chicago.
10. Arizona Cardinals (3-4-1) ESPN #12) – Down 2
This is a good team, but they sure didn’t look like it on Sunday. There’s something in Carson’s head when playing in Carolina that just doesn’t let him perform there. He looked terrible all day long.

15. Cincinnati Bengals (3-4-1) (ESPN #13)
16. New York Giants (4-3) (ESPN #22)
