What a week of Top 10 matchups from Week 10. First up we got a Dallas Cowboys versus Pittsburgh Steelers matchup which came down to the final seconds. It seemed like the lead was changing with every possession during this game, including three in the final two minutes. Dallas scored just after the two minute warning to take the lead but left plenty of time for Pittsburgh. They went right down the field and scored to take the lead again, but left just too much time as Dallas was able to punch in one more score and seal the deal.
Sunday night was Seattle travelling to New England and pulling out the victory. It’s kind of ironic that in this Super Bowl matchup, New England had a chance to score from the one yard line and couldn’t do it, a little reminiscent of how they stopped Seattle in their Super Bowl matchup. Monday night saw the New York Giants beat the Cincinnati Bengals in a home game that was needed to keep pace with the division leader. The defense was able to play good enough to hold the Bengals to only 20 points.
Check out the previous weeks Power Rankings here.
1.Dallas Cowboys (8-1) (ESPN #1) – Up 1
I feel like I’ve been waiting for this moment all my life. It’s been a long time since I could say Dallas is one of the best teams in the league and not sound like a homer. I don’t know that they are the best overall team in the league, but as of right now they deserve the number one spot with the best record in the league. They will need to figure out some of the defensive issues, but the offense will continue to impress.
2.Seattle Seahawks (6-2-1) (ESPN #2) – Up 3
I’ve been down on this team all season, however they may have exposed some issues on the previous #1 New England Patriots defense. The offense looked much better with a healthier Russell Wilson and CJ Prosise doing his thing.
3.New England Patriots (7-2) (ESPN #3) – Down 2
Some say they were exposed on defense a bit and Brady didn’t help at all throwing zero touchdowns and one interception. I expect this game to be the exception and not the rule.
4.Oakland Raiders (7-2) (ESPN #6) – Remain at #4
They remain in place during their bye week, but they will need to continue to be impressive after their return, seeing that their two division opponents have just about the same record.
5.Denver Broncos (7-3) (ESPN #4) – Up 1
They needed a blocked extra point returned for the two points to be the New Orleans Saints. I keep saying they need better QB play for them to be a legit contender; imagine Tony Romo on this team.
6.Kansas City Chiefs (7-2) (ESPN #5) – Up 1
Silently have the second longest win streak in the NFL behind the Dallas Cowboys, at five games. They’ve managed to win close games and stay in contentions for the division with both Oakland and Denver.
7.Atlanta Falcons (6-4) (ESPN #7) – Down 4
What a disappointing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. It looked like only Julio Jones really showed up to play as the run game struggled and Matt Ryan wasn’t performing like the MVP he has been all season.
8.New York Giants (6-3) (ESPN #16) – Up 2
The defense played pretty good against an explosive offense in the Bengals. Take away one 71 yard play and the defense would have had a phenomenal day. The run game showed up, which has been missing all season, that will go a long way towards helping Eli connect with Odell and the other receivers.
9.Pittsburgh Steelers (4-5) (ESPN #9) – Down 1
Even in a tough loss, they were impressive. Ben threw for 400+ yards only three weeks after knee surgery, but the offense hasn’t really been their problem. The defense continues to give up big plays and Zeke was able to break two big touchdown runs in the final two minutes and an 83 yard screen pass in the first quarter.
10.Arizona Cardinals (4-4-1) (ESPN #10) – Up 3
It seems like the Cardinals have just been having the worst season, but they are only two games behind the Seahawks.
Biggest Jump: Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals
Biggest Drop: Atlanta Falcons
Dropped out of Top 10: Cincinnati Bengals
