We are finally back folks the NBA season starts tonight. Sooo why not give you guys a little power rankings to start off. Here will be the weekly power rankings of the top 16 teams in the league.
1. Cleveland Cavaliers
They are the reigning, defending champions of the basketball world. There should not be a question why.
2. Golden State Warriors
After a crushing defeat from having a 3-1 lead in the finals, the Warriors look to redeem themselves. They signed arguably the best scorer in the league this off season. They have all the fire power on paper to be at the top, but not enough for the King and company.
3. Los Angeles Clippers
That is right guys the Clippers. They maintained most of last years roster and can certainly compete in the west. The only obstacle is health for the Clips in the 2016 season.
4. Oklahoma City Thunder
Although they lost Kevin Durant in free agency, Billy Donovan and company have a lot to say. They acquired athletic scoring guard Victor Oladipo and still have the nucleus of my preseason MVP Russell Westbrook.
5. Indiana Pacers
Paul George showed last season how the severe leg injury could not hold him back. They added notable free agents like Al Jefferson and Jeff Teague. Look for this bunch give the King a little trouble this season.
6. San Antonio Spurs
What more can we say about Gregg Popavich. He always seems to figure it out. Leonard will have a his best year yet. Since Duncan's retirement earlier this summer it is now Leonard's team. This squad could be a headache come playoff time with their balance of youth and veteran-ship.
7. Milwaukee Bucks
Jason Kidd has proven his hall of fame career has transitioned into a good coaching career. He has one of the better young squads in the NBA. Giannis will definitely be in consideration for MIP.
8. Portland Trailblazers
With possibly the best backcourt duo in the league, the Blazers will be really competitive against the top teams in the league. Lillard will make strong considerations for MVP in route to his much deserved and first All-Star appearance,
9. Houston Rockets
There is no doubt the Rockets had an off year last season. Harden put up his normal numbers but the team did not click well. D'Antoni's offensive scheme could mean a increase in his run and gun mentality. However, other teams will also get theirs since he does not believe in much defense.
10. Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks lost both Teague and Horford in free agency this off season. On the other hand, they signed hometown hero Dwight Howard and resigned 2-way wing Kent Bazemore. They should be competitive for certain.
11. Minnesota Timberwolves
Hands down the best young team in the league. With young talent comes inexperience. Look for them to grow into the Timberwolves of old with KAT rising to stardom.
12. Toronto Raptors
The past four seasons the raptors have been in the top of the east. Although they will remain competitive, look for this season to begin their decent into the lower half of the east.
13. Washington Wizards
John Wall gets better every season. His blazing speed and nack for playmaking is going to be hard to stop for opposing guards. Beall is a deadly sniper from the outside who is expanding his offense game. They will remain 5 or 6 in the east.
The Bulls have a BIG THREE.....sort of. Let's face it, Rondo is not Rondo of the Celtics. Wade is going to decline in his production. For those two factors Jimmy " Gets Buckets" Butler will have a lot on his shoulders. If the supporting cast on the bench (McDermott, Snell) could hold up their end then the Bulls will do pretty well. It is hard to consider that though.
15. Miami Heat
The heat resigned big man Hassan Whiteside who is almost unstoppable on both ends. The only thing stopping him is himself. If he can maintain a cool head then so will the Heat. They have a good supporting cast to compete. This team will be back to the top in a year or two. The Heat Pat Riley always finds a way.
16. Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks are going to be that team that you do not want to see come postseason. With Dirk, Barnes, Matthews, and a good supporting cast the Mavs will be a thorn in someone's side.
